what’s got into youの意味？
冒頭の４コマのタイトル”What’s got into you”は”どうしたの？”を意味するフレーズです。
“what got into you”とも言います。直訳すると、何があなたのなかに入ったの？ということですね。普段とは違う様子の人に対して使う表現です。
では英語の説明はこのくらいにしておいて、昨日のオンライン英会話レッスンの様子をご紹介したいと思います。
魔の１５分
ということで、出ました魔の１５分・・・。
１５分たつと急に指しゃぶりを始めるナナちゃん。画面から突然姿を消して、先生を驚かせるナナちゃん。
Cranky time got started after 15 minutes…
Nana began to suck on her index finger after 15 minutes went by. She disappear from the screen and got a teacher surprised.
ということで、息子とバトン交代することに・・・。そしてそのバトン交代にも怒って、イスの後ろに隠れて拗ねてしまいました・・・。
So my son took the lesson instead of her then. But it even got my daughter cranky and she went behind a chair in a sulk.
私自身、オンライン英会話講師でもあるので、先生側の立場でも見てしまいます。いくら２５分間ぶんのお金を払っているからと言って、飽きてきているのを察知して、歌を歌ってくれたり、たくさん名前を呼びかけたりしてくださっている先生を無視できない・・・。
As one of online English teachers, I can’t keep myself from seeing this from the teacher’s side. Though I pay for lessons, I feel really sorry to the teacher begging my daughter to answer, encouraging her to study and trying best to get her attentions.
I switched her with my son since it was obvious that she got bored….but it ended up backfire on her…
レッスン後も１時間くらいご機嫌ななめ・・・。こんなときはただぐずぐずと泣くので、ずっと抱きしめてあげることにしています。
She had been cranky for 1 hour or so after the lesson. I held her with arms for a long since she was sobbing in a sulk.
時間を空けて気持ちをヒアリング
時間を空けてあげると、そのときの心の状態を教えてくれるので、今朝,
昨日突然どうしたのか聞いてみました。
When she is in a sulk, it takes time for her to get in a good mood. So I waited till this morning and I asked her what’s got into her all of a sudden yesterday.
どうやら、途中から指をくわえだしたのは、恥ずかしくなったからのよう・・・。１５分頃って、ちょうどリピートするだけじゃなくて、一通りリピートしたものを覚えているかチェックする頃なんですよね・・・。
She told me naturally that she sucked on her finger because she got embarrassed.
When15 minutes passes, it’s always time to check if she memorizes the flush cards.
きっと、わからなくなって、答えられなくて、先生が答えを聞くのを待っている間もなんだかいやで、だんだん恥ずかしくなってくるんだと思います。
I’m sure that when she can’t get the answers, she feels bad that the teacher’s waiting her to answer and that makes her feel embarrassed…

語学学習に間違いはつきもの
間違うって恥ずかしい・・・そう考えるのは子どもだけでなく、大人も同じ。
Even some grown up feel it’s embarrassing to make mistakes….
語学は間違いながら覚えていくので、私はもう間違うことに慣れっこになっていますが、私の生徒さんもはじめのうちは『間違うこと＝恥ずかしい』と感じていらっしゃる方が中にはいらっしゃいます（私も昔は間違うことが恥ずかしかったです）。
You can’t learn any language without making mistakes and therefore, I got used to it from my experience of learning English…but some of my students, who is grown up still feel embarrassed when they make mistakes just like I felt so before.
ここを、解きほぐして、間違いながら覚えていくっていう環境づくり、雰囲気作りをいつも心がけています。”Don’t be afraid of making mistakes”ですね。
So, I try my best to make the atmosphere that making mistakes is just natural and it even make English learning effective since “every failure is a stepping stone that leads to success.”
ちゃんと覚えていたんだね！偉い！！
ただ、今朝、娘のナナはぐずぐず恥ずかしがっていただけでなく、実はちゃんとお勉強もしてくれていたんだ！！という発見がありました。
ぐずぐずモード全開のときに、習った単語を朝一番に発していたんです！これには驚きました。それは、“mouth”と“nose”。
However, it’s not the one thing I found out today. I discovered something good about her. She remembered 2 words that she learned when she was sucking on her finger.
Those are “nose” and “mouth”
一見集中力が切れているようでも、ちゃんと頭には入っている。
It looked like she totally lost her interest in the lesson then, but she memorized those words!
子どもの記憶力を甘く見ていた私・・・。先生を信じて任せてみようと決意しました。
I totally underestimated kid’s memory. I should have believed her and the teacher more.
